Liquid cooling products

Launched Spraycool's advanced development center for two-phase, spray cooling products (2005), hired team, built 10K sq.ft. facility, prototyped noiseless, room-temperature cooled computers.

Multicore UltraSPARC systems

Launched Sun Microsystems' advanced development center, incorporated CPU, architecture, engineering teams, moved entire team to product engineering (2002).

RAS Computer Analysis Laboratory and Physics Center

Designed and built a physical sciences and engineering facility (20K sq.ft.) for Sun Microsystems (2000), hired over 50 scientists and engineers, and launched a corporate-wide reliability design and education initiative crossing engineering, manufacturing, and service that leveled the company's system availability with IBM in under three years. 

Optical switch telecom products

Launched Akzo Nobel Photonics (1993), hired team, built 10K sq.ft. development and pilot production center, brought products to market in under three years. Company sold in 1997 to JDS Uniphase.

Photonics Research Laboratories

Launched Lockheed's Photonics Initiative (1986) with 40+ scientists and engineers. Funded the initiative with $15M from DARPA, Army, and Air Force contracts, and $5M of independent R&D funds.  Established pulsed and CW laser labs, and lithographic, metallization, and packaging capabilities that became a center for device research  across the company.
